We’re proud to honor Benjamin Flores as this month’s Autel Hero. Ben is an assistant scoutmaster for Troop 800 Chula Vista, California, and volunteers as a merit badge counselor for numerous hands-on disciplines, including Automotive Maintenance.
The scouts of Troop 800, one of the first coed troops in San Diego, benefit from Ben’s 15 years as an automotive technician at Sears Auto Center and the City of San Diego and 22 years as a mechanical designer. As the Automotive Merit Badge counselor, Ben teaches the importance of vehicle maintenance, diagnostics, and repair. These skills, Ben says, are “essential for life and can open doors to future careers.”
Autel is humbled to help with what Ben describes as one of the Troop’s biggest challenges: “The cost of professional diagnostic tools puts them out of reach for many scouting programs, making it challenging to teach modern automotive technology properly.” Autel has sent some tools Troop 800’s way and is committed to providing more in the future.
